INTRODUCTION

The definition of a ‘port facility’ includes areas such as anchorages, awaiting berths and approaches from seaward. This course meets the requirements of the ISPS Code.

The course provides the participants with comprehensive knowledge to enable them to take on the duties and responsibilities as defined in the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. In this course, practical case studies are used to illustrate possible measures to comply with the maritime security requirements.

The aim of the training is to provide an appointed PFSO (Port Facility Security Officer) and all working within a port or terminal facility to ensure safe operations.

Course Objective

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Develop understanding of the ISPS Code
  • Draw assessment of security risks, threats and vulnerability
  • Develop, maintain and supervise the implementation of a Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP)
  • Conduct periodic inspections of the port
  • Ensure appropriate security measures are implemented and maintained
  • Ensure that security equipment and systems, if any, are properly operated, tested and calibrated
  • Develop ability to encourage security awareness and vigilance
  • Identify weapons and improvised explosive devices
  • Imbibe security training, drills and exercises
